“My house is me and I am it. My house is where I like to be and it looks like all my dreams.”

Plumbean (PB) van life and adventures is about living a dream of freedom, and experiencing exploration, mindfully. More than 38 years ago, this seed was planted whilst tramping across New Zealand’s southern island. It grew amidst a traditional 30-year diversion as a career in public service in environmental management played out. Today the dream is in full swing.

Plumbean is a DIY tricked out 2021 Ram Promaster van, designed to accommodate a simple yet sufficiently comfortable life on the road. PB was inspired after the fictional character Mr. Plumbean in The Big Orange Splot, a children's book published in 1977.

“My house is me and I am it. My house is where I like to be and it looks like all my dreams.” Mr. Plumbean tells his neighbor.

It’s a powerful tale that introduces the concept of individuality, accepting of others' differences, and respect for those around us. Mr. Plumbean expresses his creativity and individualism by breaking away from his neighborhood conformity and repainting his house to reflect his colorful dreams.

The story is about living ones truth and ultimately about freedom. It is about the freedom to choose what we like, think and admit to others. It is also about honesty and braveness. Freedom is of little use if we are too afraid of using it.

"All I wanted was to go somewheres, all I wanted was a change, I warn't particular." Huck Finn
